Novum Foundation Launches Partnership with Houston Grand Opera to Support and Mentor Young Latin American Opera Singers

HOUSTON - The Novum Foundation is proud to announce a three-year partnership with the Houston Grand Opera to support a new effort to discover and foster rising operatic talent from Latin America. The grant, approved in December 2024, will allow HGO to bring a select group of young artists to Houston each year for individualized fellowships with HGO’s prestigious training program.

“Novum Energy has been a proud supporter of HGO for years, and I am excited to expand our partnership through the Novum Foundation,” said Novum Foundation Board President Alfredo Vilas. “Houston has become a thriving world capital, a cultural melting pot, and a true mecca for the arts. Our aim is to develop innovative opera programs that celebrate our community’s unique cultural blend and to mentor rising Latin American talent in the world of opera.”

Specifically, the Novum Foundation will help HGO identify, train, and elevate talented, young Latin American artists for mainstage roles, the Butler Studio, and the Young Artists Vocal Academy. Funding will allow HGO’s leading artistic staff to travel to Latin America and identify prospective candidates, as well as to offer individualized fellowships to outstanding Latin American singers identified in the talent search. This new program area will be especially important to singers in Latin American markets where high-level vocal instruction is not readily available but who would benefit greatly from concentrated training through world-class instruction at HGO. Through Novum Foundation’s support, these promising young artists will have the opportunity to learn and train in a professional setting while engaging with HGO’s leadership, creative teams, and audiences, giving them the opportunity to develop their talent, unique strengths, and career path.
